Projects

As an unregistered society LEAF has worked in education, environment, elderly and differently-abled care and health sectors for twelve years. It had organized tree plantation programs with Gujarat Forest Department; participated in a two-day Environment Awareness Fair on organized by GEER Foundation at Indroda Nature Park, Gandhinagar by staging a Food Court at the Fair and donated the proceeds from it to the Tsunami Relief Fund; provided financial support for the entire academic session to a hearing impaired child of Samarpan School, Gandhinagar. Also extended humanitarian help (viz. clothes, school bags, bed sheets, etc.) to children and a pressure cooker, mixer and clothes to the residents, at the Old Age Home, Gandhinagar and organized a lecture by Dr. Darshan Shah on Osteoporosis are a few examples.

 

Post registration, LEAF’s focus has been to meet the evolving needs of environment and society. LEAF works in the field of environment, health care, women, child and elderly care and school education in rural areas of Gujarat. A few examples of the work done by LEAF in the above mentioned fields are cited under our activities. Currently, there are 43 active members in the organization. Its Head Office is in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. LEAF’s honorary membership is also open to experts in various fields to help achieve its objectives.

 

LEAF’s purpose is to build a sustainable society that realizes, appreciates, cooperates and lives in harmony with Nature. The major aims of LEAF are:

 

To plan and organize programmes for greening our Mother Earth such as tree plantations, adopt a tree.

To provide education that prepares students to think and develop an environmental awareness and sensitize them to protect our Mother Earth.

To aid in organizing seminars, meetings, discussions, and exhibitions about environmental awareness and a healthy and sustainable life.

To provide financial support to economically underprivileged children for their education and non-financial assistance to elderly in old age homes.

Gandhinagar Education Project

LEAF has undertaken a 12 month project about “Strengthening the school ecosystems for enhancing learning standards in primary schools in Gandhinagar district.” This project is funded by CSR funds of a Central govt. undertaking. The project works at the grass root level of its adopted schools, school children and local people. There is the school level and student level intervention that keeps into consideration the specific socio -cultural background of the target student groups. It is universally accepted that the learning process that happens in the minds of children heavily depends on their socio-cultural environment and their connections to their land and families.

 

The project aims:

The project’s focus is students in Grades 6-8. The 10 schools have adopted from 3 Talukas of Gandhinagar district. They are as under:
